iMac G4 Display is out what is wrong?

I have an old iMac G4 17" 1Ghz. (PowerMac6,1)

Recently the display went out. Everything still seems to work, ex. remote desktop, network, even the an external display works. Its simply the display that doesn't do anything. what could this be? display / inverter?

I'm wondering if any of you had a similar situation. let me know.
